Take a Hike on the Pacific Crest Trail

Spanning 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada, the Pacific Crest Trail is enjoyed by thousands of travelers each year. The scenic trail explores intense peaks and valleys throughout Washington, Oregon, and California. Whether you have the ambitious goal of completing a thru-hike or you’re more interested in casual day hiking, the Pacific Crest Trail offers astonishing scenery, breath-taking views, and a great sense of accomplishment.

The shortest trail length of all three states runs through 455 miles of Oregon’s stunning volcanic landscape, ridges and lakes. The somewhat consistent elevation makes this section of trail a little bit easier to hike, although we do recommend you come prepared. Research the locations you plan on hiking, explore maps and guidebooks, and familiarize yourself with the places that the Pacific Crest Trail passes through! Like most things in life, hiking is more enjoyable (and safer) with friends so form your group and plan your adventure!

When to Hike and Where to Break

Experienced hikers and snow-sport enthusiasts are sure to enjoy the bountiful winter recreation opportunities, but generally most people aim to hike during snow-free months. All hikers, whether it be for a day or for a months-long excursion, should pay attention to maps and weather conditions prior to embarking on their journey.

While tent life offers its own wonder, a warm shower, comfortable bed, and 24-hour laundry service are sure to make your day even better! Located just one mile from the trail itself near the Cascade Summit in Oregon, Shelter Cove Resort & Marina is a must-stop for restocking your supply, free Wi-Fi, and a delicious meal during the summer when the Hook & Talon restaurant is in season.

What to Bring and What to Eat

There are plenty of resources available on the Pacific Crest Trail Association Website, from day-hiking and backpacking checklists to how to protect trail food and resupplying strategies. Whether you plan on challenging yourself to a thru-hike or day hiking Mount Hood, you’ll want to be prepared. Check out the PCT Oregon website for information on exploring the remarkable alpine meadows, established forests, dramatic canyons, astonishing waterfalls, volcanic ridges, and sparkling lakes of this iconic Northwest landmark.

Time spent in nature is good for both body and soul and you’ll find the personal reset you’re searching when you take a hike of the Pacific Crest Trail!
